BURKE RD. BILLABONG RESERVE NEWS - OCTOBER 2010

RMIT STUDENTS

Burke Rd. Billabong Reserve was the site that RMIT Conservation & Land Management Students used as part of their 'Natural Restoration Programs' unit on Wednesday 8 September. They planted 200 trees into the woodland south of the billabong. They will have another two days at the Reserve in October.

MUTTONWOOD TREES

Melbourne Water contractors have planted about 20 Muttonwood (Rapanea howittiana) trees in 3 areas on the riverbank as part of their riverbank project. A couple of days later, the river level rose and watered them in very well!

The September workday was well attended and about 400 small trees and shrubs were planted into the 2010 planting area. Peter and Amy from the City of Boroondara Bush crew joined in the planting.

TRAIL MAPPING

David Cummings put his GPS to good use mapping the tracks throughout the Reserve. This map has now been added to the website.
