BURKE RD. BILLABONG RESERVE NEWS - JULY 2012

I don't know that there has been enough news in the last month to warrant a newsletter so just a few points...

Two work days were held and we worked on the 2008 area, planting 200 poas and some kidney weed. With the recent wet weather the weeds are looking lush, but so are the plantings. A couple of photos from the work day are attached.

There were 2 microbats in residence on 30 June, the same male as in May, but a different female. Both had been banded previously and both are Burke Rd. bats, not Wilson Reserve bats. Melbourne Uni had some surplus PVC piping suitable for bat tubes which I have collected and shared with the bat project at St. Kilda EcoCentre. I was impressed with the 'luxury' tubes set up there - wall to wall carpet to provide more insulation for them, so am in the process of constructing another two tubes to see if the bats prefer these.
