THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT
MICROBATS There were nine microbats in 1 tube on 25 February. All were caught and assessed (none escaped). All were Gould's Wattled bats, 8 females and 1 male. Seven of the nine assessed, were banded and all were from Burke Rd. Reserve. It is becoming clear that the Burke Rd. bats are a totally different colony to the Wilson Reserve bats. |
COMMUNITY WORK DAYS In January eight people attended the Friday work day and weeded more of the 2008 area and the 2011 RMIT area. Two attended the Sunday work day, a hot day that was due to turn into rain. One of the RMIT students who had collected seeds from the area brought along five of the resulting river reds and these were planted into his plot. OTHER WORK After successfully poisoning a weed tree during the RMIT 2011 plantings, I was inspired to work on about 50 hawthorn bushes in the 2008/9 area. I have also slashed a lot of blackberries in the 2013 area and along the golf course fence. THE NEXT COMMUNITY WORK DAYS FRIDAY 9 MARCH 2012 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. & SUNDAY 25 MARCH 2012 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Work planned for the March workdays are weeding in the 2008 and 2012 RMIT areas.
